Berliner Morgenpost 15 July 2019 by Sebastian Blottner:
“Those who go to the “Water Music Festival” in the House of World Cultures, get two things sure things. On the one hand a unique roof garden atmosphere in Berlin’s open air, including sunset. On the other hand, a selected program that provides blissful moments for both experts and laypeople. Legends such as Gil are regularly presented, and at affordable prices. Often, however, they might be still unknown in Germany, while in their own countries the are well-known, if not acclaimed artists, who thankfully are brought to Germany by the festival – where otherwise hardly any organizer could pay them.
The concert on Sunday had both. As opening act for Gil Miroca Paris from the Cape Verde appeared. He’s proud to be a highly audible representative of a great music culture, which began with stars like Bonga and Cesária Évora, triumphant worldwide. Paris’ stylistic proximity to them is unmistakable and not accidental. He accompanied Évora on many tours and finished his set with her song “Sodade”.
The name of this percussionist and guitarist should be remembered. A solo album is already available, a second is in the planning.“
